About This Series

The Comandamentul Armatei Rosii series of Romania in the World Currency contains 7 distinct entries.
On 20 August 1944, the Battle of Romania began with Soviet forces invading Northern and Eastern Moldavia, and ended with the defeat of the Axis (German and Romanian) forces. Three days after the Soviet invasion, King Michael led a coup d’état which toppled Ion Antonescu, and subsequently declared an alliance with the Allies. By 24 September 1944, nearly all of Romania was under Allied control. The Comandamentul Armatei Rosii (Red Army Command, CAR) issued notes for use in the occupied territories.
