The Japanese Imperial Army invaded Xiamen (Amoy) by amphibious assault in September 1938. The Amoy Industrial Bank (AMI) was established as a puppet bank, the successor issuing entity to the Xiamen Special Municipal Government (B5551). It also had branches in Kinmen and Hong Kong. The original chairman of the board was Yin Xuepu, who was soon replaced by Li Sixian. e bank began issuing banknotes on 26 February 1942 and also issued bonds and other financial instruments. A large quantity of Amoy Industrial Bank notes were discovered in 2007 on Gulangyu Island off the coast of Xiamen, which then entered the collectors’ market.
