World Money Fair Technical forums: The Future of Numismatics
Technical Forum:
The Technical Forum is the coin industry's leading innovation platform. One day before the official start of the fair, experts, technology providers and trade visitors came together to discuss the latest technological developments. It became clear that coin production is increasingly being revolutionized by ultra-modern processes. One outstanding example is the company INORCOAT, which offers an environmentally friendly alternative to chrome VI with its PVD coating. Roman Waidelich, CEO of INORCOAT, emphasizes: “Our technology not only enables more sustainable production, but also significantly increases the longevity of embossing dies. The response to our presentation was consistently positive.”
Other innovations that were discussed at the Technical Forum included
- Femtosecond lasers for high-precision engraving and security features.
- PVD coating as an environmentally friendly replacement for chrome VI.
- Smartminting 4.0 for extremely high reliefs of up to 10 mm on modern commemorative coins.
- Sustainable minting: Low-CO₂ processes and recycled metals are becoming the norm.

Mediaforum:
A prime example of the many innovations presented at the Mediaforum is the revolutionary Nanoshine technology from CIT. This innovative technology makes it possible for the first time to highlight the smallest areas of a coin using the polished plate process, while the rest retains a matt surface.
Falk Liebnitzky, Head of Marketing CIT: “The reactions to our presentation at the Mediaforum show that collectors are very interested in our innovations. That motivates us enormously!”
Other trends discussed at the Mediaforum:
- NFT coin hybrids: the combination of physical minting and digital certificates is setting new trends for collectors.
- Emerging markets: Interest in local historical coinage is growing, particularly in Asia and Africa.
- Public-private partnerships: Central banks and private mints are jointly developing new currency and collecting concepts.
