These Presentation Edition coins were handcrafted by The Royal Mint in magnificent 5 Kilogram formats with input from Paul McCartney’s production company, MPL Communications, and with Paul himself. When asked how it felt to be commemorated on such a coin, Paul responded, “This feels like a huge honour. It’s not anything I would have ever expected to happen when I was a kid.” Only one gold coin and four silver coins were released in this Presentation format for collectors, and all five were presented exclusively in the Stack’s Bowers Galleries sale.

The unique gold 5 Kilogram piece realized a total price of $600,000, now ranking as one of the most valuable modern British coins ever sold. It took over 250 hours to make, including three days of polishing, and was hand-signed by Paul during his 2024 Got Back tour in Paris, France. Like Paul himself, this gold rarity is a truly unique and inspiring treasure.

The four silver 5 kilogram pieces each realized $38,400, achieving remarkable premiums above the $5,400 bullion value at the time of the sale. These silver pieces featured vibrant hand-enameling in the design of Paul’s psychedelic Magic Piano to truly bring it to life for collectors. Along with the gold counterpart, the silver coins represent the largest silver Proof coins in The Royal Mint’s Music Legends series and reflect the first time Paul has ever been honored on a British coin.

With over $750,000 in prices realized, this special auction sale by Stack’s Bowers Galleries and The Royal Mint was a tremendous success in connecting the world’s top collectors with these historic and exclusive treasures. Additionally, Paul and The Royal Mint will be donating a percentage of the revenue from this auction to charity.

Brian Kendrella, President of Stack’s Bowers Galleries stated, “It’s an incredible honor to have worked with Paul McCartney, MPL Communications and The Royal Mint in bringing such rare and iconic works to public auction. Paul McCartney’s timeless music and appeal continues to inspire and unite fans across the world, and these incredible coins are sure to be prized by generations to come.”

Rebecca Morgan, Director of Commemorative Coin at The Royal Mint said, “It has been a privilege to collaborate with Stack’s Bowers Galleries in presenting these rare and highly sought-after works of art. We are thrilled to welcome Paul McCartney to our lineup of music legends, and it has been an honour to work with him and celebrating one of the most influential artists and songwriters of all time."

This joint-effort between Stack’s Bowers Galleries and The Royal Mint comes on the heels of several similar partnerships between the two organizations in recent years, including a sale of special Royal Succession coins that realized $5.1 million in August 2023 and an auction of First Strike coinage that realized $1.8 million in October 2024.
